A new committee to resolve labor disputes in UAE

A new committee has been formed in the UAE to resolve disputes involving employers and workers.

Khalil Khoury, Acting Under-Secretary for Human Resources Affairs at the Ministry of Human Resources, said the decision to set up the committee was taken in the framework of strengthening the labor disputes legislation and organizational structure in accordance with the law governing labor relations and its executive rules. One way to ensure the rights of both parties is to quickly resolve labor disputes.

The aim of the new committee is to assist in the management of wage disputes. The Cabinet decision allowed the Committee to request the liquidation of the bank guarantees of the employer, the distribution of the value of the insurance coverage, the protection of the rights of the workers' party in the dispute, and the resolution of any impact of the collective labor dispute.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Indigenization yesterday announced the formation of a committee to look into collective labor disputes related to the financial rights of workers over the age of 50. Failure to resolve the wage-related issues between the worker and the employer can lead to a resolution of this committee.

The committee, chaired by the MoHRE, consists of members from the relevant authorities, including an appellate judge, a representative from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a representative from the local labor committee, or a representative from the labor crisis team.

The committee will resolve labor and financial disputes in the presence of workers' and employer representatives. The committee members will hear from witnesses and summon those who deem it appropriate to settle the dispute. The Committee shall allow both parties to present a defense memorandum along with the documents supporting their defense within at least three days from the date of notification of the hearing.

The Committee shall announce its decision within 30 days from the date of the first session dealing with the subject. This decision will be referred to the competent department for implementation.
