A new railway line to reach Oman in 47 minutes from UAE

A new railway line is coming to reach Oman in 47 minutes from UAE. This is stated in the important agreement signed between UAE and Oman.

With an investment of over Dh11 billion, the upcoming infrastructure will connect Oman's Sohar port with the UAE's rail network.

The railway will introduce state-of-the-art passenger trains running at a maximum speed of 200 kmph along a length of 303 km. This will reduce travel time from Sohar to Abu Dhabi to one hour and 40 minutes and travel time from Sohar to Al Ain to 47 minutes. Meanwhile, freight trains will be up to 120 km/h.

The agreement was signed by Etihad Rail CEO Shadi Malak and Asyad Group CEO Abdulrahman Salim Al Hatmi.

The Abu Dhabi Government Media Office announced this through a tweet

Etihad Rail, the developer, and operator of the UAE national rail network has signed an agreement with the Sultanate's Oman Rail to jointly establish an equally owned company, to be known as the Oman-Etihad Rail Company.

Building on the historic and strategic relationship between the UAE and Oman, this major joint venture is an extension of the long-standing collaboration between Oman Rail and Etihad Rail – both of which seek to create new opportunities in the infrastructure, transport, and logistics industries, both countries by rail.

The project aims to strengthen commercial exchange and social cohesion, connect major urban centers, facilitate travel between communities and open up new opportunities by providing seamless transportation solutions between the financial and industrial sectors of Oman and the UAE.
